Messengers depicts the endemic pōpokatea, whitehead (Mohoua albicilla) birds alighted on a branch of tawhai, silver beech (Nothofagus menziesii) rich with moss and beech strawberries! The topmost bird signalling to its flock. Like its close cousins the mōhua/yellowhead & pīpipi/brown creeper, pōpokatea move in a noisy group through the canopy communicating in short song bursts & other calls.
