Pepe tuna, pūriri moth (Aenetus virescens)

from NZ$70.00

Pepe tuna live inside the tree for up to 7 years emerging as imago, moths to live for only 72hrs. Their purpose as moths is to reproduce and so they have no mouth parts in their final flight. They mate and the female (a bit larger than males as often the case in the animal kingdom) lay their eggs and when the larvae hatch they burrow inside their host where they stay safe and nourished until it is time to emerge and complete the cycle. Although they sometimes use other trees pūriri is preferred.

Artist prints are created on demand so there is no wasted stock. Using archival inks and Hahnmuhle cotton paper environmentally certified through ISO 14001 for environmental management and EcoVadis and socially responsible practice.
