This open edition poster features illustrations of 29 plant/butterfly or caterpillar species native to Aotearoa, New Zealand. Central in the design is the endangered pēpepe pouri, forest ringlet or Helms’ butterfly (Dodonidia helmsii). Whether you are beginning to learn about native plant and animal species, or a full blown enthusiast already this colourful series of A2 posters is perfect to learn their names, identify species at a glance, or share your appreciation of them with those you care about. Species have been selected to demonstrate variety and character, lovingly hand-painted and carefully collated along with their names in te reo Māori, English and Latin.

Diversity is mother natures insurance policy against disaster and although as human we may not understand the immediate value of each species or ecosystem, we can trust each has its own intrinsic value as a significant link in the web of life. With this understanding (and knowing the majority of the land here has been modified since human arrival) it is of great significance for all people visiting, living in or of this place to protect and restore native ecosystems, plant and animal life.
